Any recommendations for TTS software on Linux using Chrome/Firefox?

You could try ChromeVox or Orca but they aren't used as much in the wild.

I am immensely grateful for this tutorial. Is it up to date? If anything changes in terms of best practices, do you plan to update the tutorial? I "do a11y" at my company and until yesterday had assumed that the Screen Reader extension on Google Chrome was a useful way to replicate an e.g., blind user's experience on the web. Should I be optimizing for VoiceOver use on Safari? Is that best practice in your opinion? Because doing so will not necessarily optimize the Screen Reader experience... fascinating, but complex topic.

Any 'best practice' recommendations for dropdown menus? I have been testing our local dropdown menus with VoiceOver and don't find the experience to be very intuitive... yet I can't tell whether that's a prescription for improving the dropdowns, or getting more proficient with VoiceOver!
